Hi! I'm Rob.

Hi, I’m Rob van Barneveld. I live in Utrecht with my wife and our two kids, and I draw. A lot.

I’m a self-taught illustrator. Drawing started as something I simply couldn’t stop doing, and over the years I managed to turn it into my profession. For more than 15 years now, I’ve been making comics and illustrations under the name Rood Gras, from comic albums and editorial work to live drawing at meetings, conferences and events.

My path into this work wasn’t a straight line. I studied Social Work and Social Pedagogy, and that’s where I started making visual notes during lectures, simply because drawing helped me remember everything better. That background still shapes how I work today: behind every story, strategy or challenge, there are people. I want to make things clear for them.

My superpowers

• I’m a visual thinker. I don’t just hear what’s being said; I see it. Ideas, structures and connections automatically turn into images in my head, and from there onto paper or screen.

• I have a fast drawing hand. Whether it’s a live session or a tight deadline, I can put ideas into clear, lively drawings at high speed, without losing quality.

• I pick things up quickly. I’m good at grasping new information fast, even on complex or unfamiliar topics. That allows me to ask the right questions and get to the heart of your story.

Curious what we could create together?
