The power of storytelling.
Give your story the visual boost it needs.

For over 15 years, I’ve been working as a comic artist under the name Rood Gras. In that time, I’ve created hundreds of illustrations and comics, produced dozens of publications and contributed to a wide variety of books and magazines. From personal stories and educational publications to journalistic productions and creative projects: drawing has long been my way of bringing stories to life.
My style is recognizable, accessible and full of character. Every illustration starts with a good story and one question: what do you want the reader to feel, understand or remember?
15 Years of stories.
A comic is much more than a series of drawings. It’s a powerful form of storytelling where image, text, timing and emotion come together. Because a story unfolds step by step, you effortlessly draw the reader into a subject.
Complex information becomes easier to understand. A personal experience feels closer. A message sticks better.
Whether it’s a social campaign, an educational story, a corporate story or a personal publication: comics make information accessible, human and memorable.

This what I can do.
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve had the chance to contribute to a large number of books, magazines and other publications. That experience has taught me how to build a story clearly, how image and text strengthen each other, and how to speak to different audiences.
Whether it’s a short comic, an editorial illustration, a complete graphic novel or a visual report: I’m happy to help you find the form that best suits your story.

This is how I work.
Every comic starts with a conversation. Together, we explore the message, audience and tone of the story. Then I develop the concept into a script, a storyboard and finally a fully illustrated comic or series of illustrations.
Throughout the process, there’s room for input and feedback, so the end result isn’t just visually strong, but tells exactly what needs to be told.
Who is Rob?
It all started with comics. I’ve been drawing for over 15 years, and my love of comics still drives everything I make. With my cheerful, colorful style, I’ve filled quite a few comic albums by now.
I was already making visual notes during my studies in Social Work and Social Pedagogy. Drawing helped me remember the information from lectures much better.
My comic style turned out to be a perfect fit for live drawing: clear lines, recognizable characters and a story that naturally unfolds in images. And I love thinking on my feet. I listen, capture the essence and turn it straight into a drawing everyone can understand.
There’s one thing I always bring from my background: the human factor. Behind every challenge are people. How do you make a challenge concrete? And how do you make the solution so clear that everyone wants to get started right away? I ask these questions on every assignment, whether it’s graphic recording at a conference, a visual story map or a standalone illustration.
As a live illustrator and illustrator, I’ve worked for clients including the City of Utrecht, Ipse de Bruggen, Achmea and CNV.
